Winter Project Work: Trail Work at the Desk

I’ve been heads down and at my desk the last few months.

Honored to be part of a major updating of a long-standing trail stewardship reference book, the hours trail professionals spend at their desk creating training and reference materials instead of on the trail often fly under the radar of social media and the public eye. (And that’s aside from trail assessment reports and project documentation for environmental compliance.) Rigging, chainsaws and freshly cut tread is just sexier than word documents and slide decks.

Keeping trail skills current is a resource multiplier, for paid trail staff as well as volunteers.

I’m excited for the workshops and trail projects planned for this year, but I am even more excited about this project. With trail visitorship up coast-to-coast, getting quality learning materials into the hands of maintainers is a key element to sustainability, especially for our legacy trails.
